However, to address the stigma around discussing mental health and acknowledge the toll that masking neurodiverse symptoms can have, these resources are tailored toward  Black individuals or People of Color.

Resources in Austin:

  • Central Texas African American Family Support conference (CTAAFSC): 

    • CTAAFSC hosts an annual conference and events that discuss mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, substance use disorder, and overall health to reduce stigma and barriers to care. It was the third conference in the U.S. to focus on the healthcare needs of Black individuals.

  • Colors of Austin Counseling:

    • A diverse counseling practice that is committed to removing barriers to mental health resources and offers group workshops and individual counseling sessions. â€‹

​

  • The D. Woods Foundation Inc.: 

    • The D. Woods Foundation advocates for mental health reform and suicide awareness in minority communities. It also hosts a mental health awareness support group and peer services. ​

​

  • Mental Health Liberation:

    • A non-profit charitable organization launching in Spring 2022 that plans to offer free therapy and support circles to Black individuals, a mentorship program for students studying mental health, and provide supervision for emerging therapists. ​

​

  • What's in the Mirror: 

    • ​A registered non-profit that connects people of color to therapists, counselors, and social workers while advocating for the destigmatization of mental health and AIDS through art and creative expression.

National & Virtual Resources: 
  • Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM):

    • BEAM supports mental wellness through advocacy, education, and the creative arts. It also offers grants to those doing Black-led wellness work, hosts virtual and in-person events, and offers online peer support groups, including a peer support group for Black transmasculine or genderqueer individuals.

  • Black Men Heal:​​​

    • Black Men Heal connects Black men to mental health care providers, offers financial support for therapy, and hosts a virtual weekly meet-up for Black men to voice their experiences and hear from mental health professionals. 

​

  • Black Mental Health Alliance: 

    • The Black Mental Health Alliance provides training, workshops, and forums on mental health topics for mental health professionals and clients. It also offers confidential referrals to those seeking mental health services. 

​

  • Black metal Health Matters: 

    • A non-profit corporation that seeks to minimize the stigma around mental health in the Black community through weekly videos on mental health topics. 

​

  • Black Mental Wellness:

    • A corporation hosts events and an annual conference on Black mental health and provides workshops that introduce organizations, adults, and youths to mental health topics such as racial stressors and stigma.  

​

  • The Boris Lawerence Henson Foundation: 

    • Founded by Taraji P. Henson, the foundation has a free therapy program, offers scholarships to Black students pursuing a career in mental health, and provides mental health services to underserved schools, communities, and formerly incarcerated individuals in re-entry programs. 

​​

  • The Loveland Foundation: 

    • A non-profit organization that offers up to 12 waivers for therapy sessions to Black women and girls and holds educational workshops for therapists. â€‹

​

  • Therapy for Black Girls: 

    • Therapy for Black Girls features a mental health blog, an online community for Black women to connect, and helps Black women find virtual or in-person therapy near them. â€‹

​

  • Therapy for Black Men: 

    • Therapy for Black Men connects Black men to therapists and coaches and has a financial assistance program for free therapy sessions. â€‹
